...wishing you could control everything.
It is a waste of time and energy to wish that things had happened differently or that reality simply….wasn’t real.
It is. It's happening. THESE THINGS are happening. You can't fit everything into one box. The plane tickets cost a fortune. Your husband will be gone for the entire week before you have to clear out of your house.
The circumstances in your life are what they are. If you've chosen to stick it out you must let them be. Stop fighting - it'll suck the life out of you.
What you can control - thankfully, gloriously, AWESOMELY - is how you choose to think about those insane moments and the stories you tell yourself about what they all mean.
- "This is a sign to finally throw some of this junk away. I have too much stuff."
- "The price I pay for this direct flight is worth a heck of a lot more than the sanity I'll lose if I have to catch a connecting flight while hauling these two kids around with me."
- "I agreed to this. I will make it. I will make it. I will make it."
What's a new thought you can choose around one of the difficult moments you're going through?
Note: The thought has to be something you can BELIEVE. If you try to jump from "my husband is an ass for leaving all of this on me," to "this is the greatest thing to happen in my life - ever!" -- you won't get very far.
The point is not to go from misery to elation. It is to move up the emotional scale - even just a little bit - closer to a more neutral emotion if not a positive one.
